Whos shooting? Layoffs for the week ended 10-23-09
Who's firing is a weekly survey of organizations announcing (or rumoring) layoffs for the week ending 10-23-09. Not only is this valuable to job seekers, but for business analysts, business strategists, traders, vendors, financial analysts, financial advisors, and others who are interested in companies that contract.
Updates job cuts and rumors this week were in government, healthcare, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, financial and banking, and publishing.
Inclusion on this list does not mean that the industry is declining, as are those of the same area appeared on the Who's Hiring "section released 10/19/09. It is interesting to note that if Federal employment is rising, a number of state and local governments have continued to see reductions in the past month.
Health care organizations have been dismissed as Valley Mental Health, Bristol-Meyers Squibb, Cook County Health System, Oak Forest Hospital, Pfizer, Carestream Health, Navilyst Medical, Eli Lilly, Smith Medical.
The publishers have continued to lose jobs as Time, The New York Times, The Charlotte Observer, and McGraw-Hill has announced layoffs, while rumors swirl around Conde Nast, whose units would face job cuts.
Job seekers: You may want to seek pastures greener than corporations.
