
Can i get or file for unemployment if i have to quit because of health reasons caused by the job?
i work in the front office and on the first floor of a nice building. across the hall is a restaraunt. every day when they open i swear all the smokers of america run in there and the smoke of nasty cigars and cheap cigarettes filter into my office. it makes me nauseated and gives me migraines almost every day. i’ve had to go home twice before because it caused my eyes to itch and burn and my nose to run and uncontrollable sneezing. i’ve called the management company and had them repair ours and the restaraunts ventillation system 3 times. what are my options? i so don’t get paid enough here to risk my health.
You should file a formal issue with your management to let them know that this is a concern, and that it is causing health-related issues. If they eventually let you go for anything related to this, you should be eligible for unemployment. You are almost NEVER eligible for unemployment if you quit a job.
In the mean time, you can ask that your management buy one of those air cleaners for your area to see if that helps. See your doctor about your migraines – they usually wouldn’t be triggered by an odor, and could be related to something else.
