How can state teacher’s unions continue raises and benefits while services cut and non-tenured fired?
I am at a loss…I live in NJ, where the gov cut state funding. I understand why – we are going bankrupt. There just isn’t the money. But rather than rally together to help folks not get fired and preserve services for kids – the unions – NJEA – must have crazy power. Tenured teachers continue their 3 year contract raises, pay nothing and get health benefits and pensions, and collegues without tenure – gone. At the district budget meeting – the NJEA speaker was given a standing ovation. I work in a private school. Husband works in a theater. We pay over 600 a month for helath benefits for our families. No pension. What is going on? You would think a pay freeze at least to preserve services and jobs? What do you think about the conflict between unions, management, government? What can be done to reel in unions acting irresponsible? I know may seem like bad for reputation to compromise, but shouldn’t there be some rational compromise in times of crisis at least??
They’re a Union. That’s what Unions do. If there are no teachers in the schools, the parents can’t work because they have to stay home with their kids. The only choice the school district has is to ceed to the demands of the teachers. As for your health insurance, you have it easy. I pay more than you do and I don’t have a family or a husband at all. The solution to this is really simple. Run for office.
