What are your suggestions for eating cheap and healthy?
Steps I have already taken:
For a family of 5 which includes 2 adults and 3 small children I spend around $150.00 per week. This seems too high.
We do not eat out and the adults pack lunches for work or college. The kids have their lunches and snacks packed for school
The only boxed foods I buy are whole wheat pasta and oatmeal. I do not buy cookies, crackers, chips.
We use fruit for snacks.
I buy in bulk whenever practical.
I canned spaghetti sauce and pizza sauce and vegetables, but ran out last week.
We make our own baked goods with whole wheat and wheat germ.
I never let any left overs go to waste. I make soup or stir fry out of it.
I really need suggestions!
I think it sounds like you are doing everything to save and eat healthy, good for you!!! I too have a small budget, but for a family of 3 1/2 (I am pregnant) we spend pretty much 100$ a week, so I think you are doing very well…sometimes eating healthy isn’t always the cheapest way to go, but it’s the best for your family…buying all junk you will probably have a cheaper grocery bill, but it won’t be better for your family…so I would say just keep doing what you are doing, go on the “Kraft” website for good healthy and cheap meal ideas…and I honestly think 150$ for a family of 5 is awesome!!
