I am going to Capella University (online) for a Phd, can I teach at a university?

I am in the military, so that’s why I decided on an onling college. This college is accredited. I have a BA in Anthropology-Sociology, and I am going to Capella and working toward a MS in Mental Health Counseling, and then a Phd in counseling psychology. It is a very intense program, and I will also need to work at an internship/practicum for 4,100 hours, as well as do a dissertation. I will also be a licensed counselor at the completion of my MS. But, I really want to teach at a University, even if it is a community college or some sort of branch. Could I still do this, even though the college is online?

Many universities will not take you seriously.

Technically, there is nothing stopping a university from hiring you if you have a PhD from an accredited university. However the truth is that the quality of your PhD is a huge factor in hiring professors. Most universities will not even look at you.

There are two alternatives to this. One is to transfer to a more prestigious university. The other is to publish your research in the top journals. If you can get a few papers published in the top journals, they won’t care if you got your degree from a Crackerjack Box (which is only a slight step down from an on-line university).
