A Nation at Risk: The U.S. Healthcare Crisis
In 2006, the U.S. Census reported that 46 million Americans have no health insurance, including 9 million children who are missing. The sad truth is that over 18,000 people die each year because they are not insured. Even with all this, U.S. spending on health care is a staggering $ 2 trillion annually, or about $ 6,700 per person. The country continues to spend more on health care than any other country in the world.
Yet Americans are still lacking adequate health care and the funds to pay bills associated. The surprising fact of the matter is – three quarters of all bankruptcies in the nation, including half are caused by medical bills, are people who have health insurance.
So what is done about it? During the presidency Bill Clinton, he promised to do something against the rising cost of healthcare in the nation. The reform, which seemed at first, little time has failed due to a combination of factors – reluctance of other politicians to deal with insurance and other lobbies, and general entertainment nation at war, the economy and global terrorism.
There are four times as many lobbyists in Washington, health care there members of Congress, but medical costs continue to grow rapidly. Health care is still forced to return to political importance. Problems related to the crisis and the high costs of health care include the problem of disentangling increasingly rapid employer health insurance; the fate of Medicaid, and the problem still continued solvency of the federal government.
Even with all these problems, there is light at the end of the tunnel. The United States now knows more about the economics of health during the Clinton presidency, when he tried and failed to rebuild the system. There is a growing body of evidence on what works and what does not work in health care and information on improving spectacular nation for health is available.
Regarding the doctors today, there are viable solutions to the crisis health care as well. These solutions include the following:
1. Doctors need to learn from learning "business" of medicine with a "niche marketing and niche medical practices before it is too late.
2. Doctors need to think outside the box "and become more entrepreneurial and less dependent on private and government insurance plans subsidized (ie Medicare, Medicaid).
3. Doctors need to learn to reduce overheads and increase their profit potential. A medical practice is no different than any other business, the cost of doing business rises and reimbursement goes down and competition increases.
4. Doctors need to treat a medical practice like a business to accept money!
